“I had only ever heard great things about CJUK, so while I was working 65 hours a week for a 50 hour contract and still needing to work my days off, I knew something had to give. I had my reservations about ‘Agency’ work as it was the unknown and work wasn’t always guaranteed, but after meeting everyone and getting started I knew I was doing the right thing. Less stress more freedom and also the fact you do earn exactly what you have worked.

Ian CJUKWith regards to how it has changed my work life balance, you can work as hard and as long as you want, however you do still have to do the contracts that are sent, so the hours are the same for any chef the only difference is you now get paid for them all. The biggest change for me is being able to take whatever time off I needed from summer to Christmas, I took both Christmas and Boxing day off for the first time in 16 years, both days I got to spend with my family, no rushing the kids to open presents before rushing to work, it was the best.

I am massively proud of my time as a CJUK Chef, it was great to be part of the brigade and not feel like just a chef but part of a bigger group of valued individuals.

The team at CJUK HQ were and still are extremely helpful, friendly, and always go the extra mile to help you out. My family are the whole reason why I do work the silly hours, and work as hard as I do in order to make them proud. With CJUK I have the bonus of spending more quality time with them, like I did for my friend’s wedding which I was able to get the time off to be there with them all.”
