Common Misconceptions About Becoming a CJUK Chef

Our Talent Team very often find that a lot of Chefs had a number of misconceptions as to what working with CJUK actually entails. With the help of our Elite Chefs, we identified the most common questions asked about becoming a CJUK Chef.

Are you required to have your own whites & knives to become a CJUK Chef?become cjuk chef
Yes, all of our Chefs are representing CJUK so we ask that they have a full set of crisp, clean whites and a set of knives. When you become an Elite Chef, we will provide you with a CJUK apron and Chefs Jacket. Learn more about how to become an Elite Chef here.

Will you need to have your own transport to join the CJUK team?
No, Chefs can travel by any mode of transport to our jobs.

Will you receive travel expenses as a CJUK Chef?
This will depend on the contract. On some contracts, Chefs receive a contribution towards travel expenses which is paid on completion of the contract unless otherwise stated.

Do you need a food hygiene certificate to join the CJUK team?
We like all of our Interim Chefs to have a level 2 food hygiene certificate. Don’t worry if you don’t already have one you can get one here.

Do you need a DBS check to become a CJUK Chef?
No, unless you’re going to be working in an environment with vulnerable children and/or adults, in which case our in-house DBS Checking team can will help guide you through the process. Although, it is becoming more common for employers to request a Basic DBS check which is available to any individual regardless of their area of work.

Do all contracts come with live-in accommodation?
Only some contracts provide accommodation and this will depend entirely on whether the client can provide it. Your accommodation can be anything from a 5* hotel bedroom to a staff house.

No, all accommodation is paid for by the client.

Do you have to be available 7 days a week?
You can be available 2 days a week or 7. We do get 2/3 day contracts that could fit around a permanent role. Learn more about working part-time by contacting our Talent Team on 01254 355666.

Do I need to pay a fee to register with CJUK?
No, you won’t need to pay anything to join the CJUK team. All we require is your professionalism and loyalty.

How much will you earn as a CJUK Chef?
On all of our contracts you will earn between £10 and £15 per hour.

How long are the contracts with CJUK?
Contracts can be anything from 1 week to 6 months. It all depends on your availability and the client’s needs. We have many Chefs who are asked back to the same clients for seasonal work year in, year out.

Can you keep me busy all year round?
We are busy with bookings all year round. A lot of our Chefs work for us 52 weeks a year. If you continuously work for CJUK all year round you can become part of our Elite Chef team.

Can I work hours to suit me and can I choose my days off?
Your rota will reflect the requirements of the client but we will always ask that you get your 2 days off together & we will try to meet your needs for hours. One of the great things about being a CJUK Chef is that you can choose when you take your holidays.
