Congratulations to CJUK Chef, Curtis, who has been recognised as our ‘Chef of the Month’ for February 2019!
A few words from the team:
“Curtis is an absolute pleasure to work with, he gets his head down and gets on with work but in the last couple of months he has really gone the extra mile to help us, even battling through the January snow! He has made a fantastic impression at the sites he’s worked at and we even got a call from Head Office at one of the groups to say they’d heard great things about him!”
How did you start in the industry?
It all started when I was looking for some work experience while I was at school. Before I even had the chance to ask around, my dad came home to say he’d gone into a local Hotel & Spa and they could do with some help in the kitchen!
Why did you become a Chef?
I’d always enjoyed cooking and being in the kitchen, my work experience gave me an insight into the industry. I had a couple of permanent jobs including 3 years in a bakery then decided to join CJUK in September 2018.
What is your favourite thing about working in this industry?
I’m always amazed at the amount of ways to make one thing, whether it’s adding a different ingredient or using a different method, there’s always something new to learn and I’m always looking to build up my knowledge and pass on any tips I’ve picked up. That’s one thing I enjoy about temporary/relief work, it allows me to learn and develop rather than be limited.
What is the best job you have ever had?
Definitely working with CJUK, I enjoy my work so much more. I have a better social & family life and I don’t have to argue or justify when I am taking some time off!
What three words sum up why you work for CJUK?
