Catching up with Dean, May’s Chef of the Month

Written on 05-Jun-2019

Congratulations to our Chef, Dean, who has been recognised as our ‘Chef of the Month’ for May 2019!

Dean Kennedy

After receiving various nominations from the team, Dean has been recognised for his helpfulness and for covering at really short notice to help us and our hospitality partners.

A few words from the team:

“Dean is a brilliant asset to our brigade. He is so helpful and a real pleasure to work with! He has previously been recognised by our clients for his work and he definitely deserves this award too.”

We got in touch with Dean to share the good news with him and to find out some interesting facts about his Chef career…

How long have you been in the hospitality industry for?

For 16 years.

How did you become a Chef?

I didn’t start my career as a Chef until I was 19 when I finished by NVQ in painting and decorating. I couldn’t even cook before I started college, but being a Chef looked like a good career!

It’s one of the best choices I’ve ever made, apart from joining CJUK.

What was your first Chef job?

My first job was in a tex mex restaurant in Lancaster as a Commis.

What is your favourite thing about working in the industry?

It’s got to be the people you meet, most of my friends I have are from working in the industry, it’s also how I met my lovely fiance!

What’s the strangest thing you have experienced?

Working in a prison was very strange…

What is the best job you’ve ever had?

I would say my best job was a little Italian restaurant in Kirkby Lonsdale, it just made me fall in love with Italian cuisine.

Best thing about your role as an Interim Chef?

I get to learn something new every day, the variety of places I get to work in and the people I get to work with.

What is your guilty pleasure?

I love dominos pizzas or a big tub of Haribo!

What three words sum up why you work with CJUK?

Professional, Caring, Freedom.

Thank you for all of your hard work Dean!
