Gibbon Bridge Hotel are looking to recruit a permanent Sous Chef to work at their award-winning 30 bedroomed four-star country hotel in the beautiful Forest of Bowland.

Gibbon Bridge Hotel are looking to recruit a permanent Sous Chef to work at their award-winning 30 bedroomed four-star country hotel in the beautiful Forest of Bowland. The hotel is located close to Clitheroe and is just 20 minutes from Preston. Their chef-patron is seeking an experienced chef to join her brigade and assist in the running of the kitchen. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of accomplishment in a similar position and be professional, flexible and able to work to a rosette standard.

The successful Sous Chef will be working within a busy restaurant, which aims to serve the finest food in the area offering modern British cuisine. The hotel boasts two private dining rooms offering fine dining with fabulous views, well-manicured gardens and a unique alfresco dining area which caters for up to 60 guests.  In addition, the function facilities can seat up to 200 covers and the restaurant has seating for 120 covers.

Due to the COVID-19 related restrictions over the past 12months, the hotel expects to be extremely busy this year with lots of functions, weddings and events. The ideal applicant will be comfortable working in a busy kitchen and thrive under pressure!

Main duties to include:

  • Running the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence
  • Ensuring high culinary standards are maintained
  • Managing food purchasing and storage as required
  • Maintaining a safe and hygienic kitchen environment
  • Helping create new recipes, dishes  and write menus
  • Managing and overseeing staff including some staff training as required

The successful Sous Chef will:

  • Have had experience in a similar role within a similar kitchen environment
  • Have a relaxed approach and work well within a small team
  • Be able to motivate and drive the team to
  • Have the ability to remain focused during busy services
  • Be passionate about producing quality dishes with fresh seasonal/local produce.
  • Have an extensive knowledge of fresh ingredients and produce
  • Work 5/7 days – this will include evenings, weekends and bank holidays
  • Be flexible and capable of working in different areas and sections of the kitchen


  • Generous salary, negotiable dependent on experience
  • 28 Days holiday
  • Free onsite car parking
  • Fully furnished accommodation (if required) including bed linen, towels, electricity plus one meal per day, use of laundry facilities and detergents, Wi-Fi, access to gym & tennis court and use of bicycles provided for the right candidate. However, own transport is desirable due to the location of the hotel.

  • Be responsible for maintaining and updating their own professional skills and knowledge


  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a professional kitchen
  • Experience of managing a small team
  • Sourcing produce, budgeting and ordering
  • Maintaining professional skills and standards
  • Creating new dishes and menus
  • Demonstrating and training other team members
